There Are No Shortcuts to Any Place Worth Going...
Non profits have never had so much to do with so much at stake nor has the push for visible outcomes and rapid results been. So we do understand the impulse to respond and act quickly. But we also know that the wrong shortcut can put you on a road to nowhere. That’s why it is critically important to balance action orientation with the thinking and preparation to give strategic direction to that action.
The world is growing even more impatient and its problems increasingly urgent so it is no surprise that organisations are feeling the need to make change faster. We know it is important to facilitate this, which is why we developed a real-time approach to strategy development and focus on providing clients with practical tools to get the job done. When you take shortcuts to achieve your goal, you won’t be able to enjoy the success after you reach the goal.
You have a goal? Good! You’re trying to achieve something? Great! You’re motivated? Excellent!
But if you aren’t willing to put in the time, persistence, and practice, you’ll never get somewhere worth going. It might seem like you’re making progress. You might achieve some intermediary success. But eventually your shortcuts will catch up with you. You will wind up somewhere you never intended.
Being good at things isn’t a place worth going. Getting better at things is the real gold standard. If you know how to improve, you can always build upon the current version of yourself. You can be better today than you were yesterday. You can be even better tomorrow, and the day after that. You can go towards being the best version of yourself. And if that’s not a place worth going, I don’t know what is.
